When To Consider Getting A Mommy Makeover

Written by Dr. Samuel J. Beran | Nov 24, 2021 1:39:55 AM

Would you like to look better in a bathing suit and lingerie? Are you ready to finally get rid of the sagging skin and excess fat that have built up as a result of having children? Do you long to have higher, larger breasts and fuller, rounder buttocks? If your answer to any or all of these questions is yes, consider having a combination of body sculpting procedures known as a Mommy Makeover.

Whether you decide to have one plastic surgery procedure or several, a Mommy Makeover helps women of all ages and body types regain the trim, curvy shape they had before pregnancy. In many cases, A Mommy Makeover gives them even a better body than they had before! To learn more about the full range of body sculpting  procedures I offer, click here.

Is a Mommy Makeover right for you?

Mommy Makeover surgery is a combination of procedures customized for each individual patient’s expectations and desired results. Ideal candidates for a Mommy Makeover should:

  • be in good medical health
  • be at or near their ideal body weight
  • be finished with childbearing
  • not smoke or drink excessively
  • be realistic about the results they are expecting to see after surgery

Choose from these 6 procedures for a trimmer, younger-looking body

Almost all of the physical changes that come with pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding—drooping and smaller-than-before breasts, stubborn fat deposits, a flabby and protruding stomach, loose skin, sagging buttocks and unwanted thigh saddlebags—can be dramatically improved with a combination of cosmetic surgical procedures, including:

Breast augmentation surgery is performed to enlarge small breasts, underdeveloped breasts or breasts that have decreased in size after a woman has had children. It can also make breasts more symmetrical if one is significantly larger or smaller than the other. There are three types of breast implants available in the U.S.: saline (sterile saltwater), silicone gel, the Ideal Implant (a structured, saline-filled implant) and the Natrelle® Gummy Breast Implant.

Breast lift surgery restores the shape and contour of breasts that have sagged as a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, age, gravity, heredity and other factors. This procedure re-positions the nipple and areola (the pink skin surrounding the nipple) to a higher position, moves the breast tissue to a higher level, removes excess skin from the lower portion of the breast, and reshapes the remaining breast skin.

Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion. As long as you maintain your weight, liposuction is a permanent solution for fat removal. The most commonly-requested areas of the body for liposuction are: waist, hips, flanks, arms, abdomen, thighs, buttocks and lower legs.

A Brazilian butt lift uses liposuction to take pockets of excess fat from unwanted areas such as your belly, waist or thighs and transfer it to the buttocks area, increasing the size, shape, position and fullness of your butt. The benefits of a Brazilian butt lift are two-fold: it slims and trims those areas where you have too much fat, while giving you a higher, fuller, firmer butt. Plus, since a Brazilian Butt Lift uses your own fat, there is very little risk of rejection.

Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, is a highly effective way to reduce excess fat and skin and tighten abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck removes loose, flabby skin that has lost its shape and elasticity, strengthens weakened stomach muscles, improves the look and shape of the belly button, defines the waist, removes stretch marks, and creates a smoother, tighter midsection.

Lower body lift surgery, often done in conjunction with liposuction, reduces excess fat and loose, hanging skin. It is also very effective at tightening and sculpting the buttocks, back of the thighs, outer thighs, inner thighs, hips and abdomen. This surgery may also help minimize the appearance of cellulite.

For the best results and least inconvenience, think about combining procedures

As I tell my patients who are considering a Mommy Makeover, combining surgeries makes the most sense because it not only limits your total recovery downtime, it allows you to enjoy the results all at once, whether than bit by bit after several surgeries.

Make sure you’re doing this for you

A Mommy Makeover is a highly individualized combination of surgical procedures that can be life-changing. The positive physical changes are often a wonderful turning point in a person’s life, boosting their self-esteem and enabling them to feel confident about their bodies, sometimes for the first time. This is why it’s very important to undergo this surgery for yourself, not to fulfill someone else’s idea of what your body should look like.

Do you need to lose weight before a Mommy Makeover?

While it is true that some fat will be removed during your Mommy Makeover, you will need to have lost the bulk of your “baby weight” before the surgery. This is necessary for optimal skin resection. I recommend being no more than 25 pounds over your goal weight before the procedure(s).
