The Brazilian Butt Lift Is The World’s Fastest Growing Cosmetic Procedure. Here's Why

Written by Dr. Samuel J. Beran | Jun 15, 2022 10:00:00 AM

You’ve probably noticed that a large, round, firm butt is highly desirable and very much in demand these days, by women all over the world. This in turn has led to a huge increase of Brazilian butt lifts (BBLs) being performed. In fact, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, in 2020, surgeons performed 40,000 butt augmentation procedures, an increase of 90.3% between 2015 and 2019, making it the fastest-growing cosmetic procedure in the world.

As well as the Brazilian butt lift, I also offer a wide range of other body sculpting procedures that can help you achieve a firmer, more shapely, younger-looking body. To learn more, click here.

Why such a big demand for big butts?

There are several reasons for the skyrocketing popularity of the Brazilian butt lift, but here are the top seven, according to Insider and NY Surgical Arts:

  1. Women have been wanting to lift their bodies — and their butts — out of the pandemic.

  2. BBLs have gotten a lot of attention recently on social media like TikTok.

  3. Celebrity trends: Famous women with large backsides like Kim Kardashian, JLo and Nicki Minaj have inspired others to achieve similar shapes.

  4. Patients are choosing to spend their disposable income on plastic surgery rather than exotic vacations, designer clothing or expensive jewelry.

  5. BBLs have become safer to perform when done by board-certified plastic surgeons

  6. A 2-in-1 procedure: With liposuction, fat is removed from other parts of the body and injected into the buttocks, so patients get a bigger, firmer butt while at the same time, lose inches around their waist, arms, back and thighs.

  7. Greater acceptance of body diversity: Society’s views of a beautiful body shape have changed. Fuller, curvier figures are increasingly accepted and even highly desired.

What exactly is a Brazilian butt lift and what will it do?

During Brazilian butt lift surgery, I use liposuction to remove excess fat from certain parts of the body and then transfer it to the buttock area to give patients a higher, plumper and more rounded butt. Typically, I extract this fat from the lower back, “love handles” and abdomen and use it to shape the top and sides of the butt. In essence, I trim away where you have too much fat while building up where you would like more fullness. I can also use liposuction to remove fat from the tummy, waist area and thighs, giving patients a sexy, voluptuous, hourglass silhouette. Most importantly, since a Brazilian butt lift uses the body’s own fat, there’s no chance of rejection.

When combining a BBL with liposuction, these areas respond best

Liposuction is very successful at reducing localized fat deposits and reshaping the body, especially around the midsection. It can be performed on almost any part of the body but when combined with a BBL to get a curvy, full-figured shape, these are the areas I recommend for liposuction:

  • abdomen and waist
  • hips and flanks
  • inner and outer thighs
  • back

Is a Brazilian butt lift safe?

As a plastic surgeon who has been performing this body contouring surgery for over 20 years, I can confidently say that yes, if done properly, in the right setting, in the right patients, this procedure is safe. In order to avoid any negative outcomes for my patients, I perform all of my surgeries at the Surgical Specialty Center of Westchester, a leading-edge, state-of-the-art facility in Harrison, NY.

How long will the results last?

A Brazilian butt lift is a very long-lasting procedure. On average, expect about 50% of the injected fat to stay in the area and about 50% to be reabsorbed by the body, which is why I always put in extra fat deposits.

How much does a BBL cost?

When asked how much a Brazilian butt lift will cost, my answer is that there is no one standard price. Recognizing that every woman’s body and expectations for butt augmentation surgery are unique to her, I determine the exact cost of a Brazilian butt lift after I have met with the patient, evaluated her body type, amount of fat stores, overall physical condition and her personal goals and expectations.
