A shapely, toned, full-sized derrière is something many women desire but few are born with in the proportions they want. A Brazilian butt lift (also called butt augmentation or BBL) is an excellent way to achieve the fuller, firmer, sexier “behind” they’ve always wanted. In addition, since a BBL uses your own fat, there’s no chance of rejection, which is a big plus.
Another benefit of this popular procedure is that it can create a more pleasing balance between the shape, size and contour of your buttocks in proportion to the rest of your body. As well as the Brazilian butt lift, I also offer a wide range of other body sculpting procedures to help you achieve a more shapely body. To learn more, click here.
Combine breast augmentation with a butt lift for a more balanced body shape
At the same time that I am performing a Brazilian butt lift, I can also trim down places where you have too much fat while building up those areas where you would like more fat. For this reason, many of my patients take advantage of the liposuction procedure used in a Brazilian butt lift to remove fat from their tummy, waist area and thighs and transfer it to their butt, giving them a beautiful, sexy hourglass silhouette.
Also, while they’re having butt augmentation, many women choose to have breast augmentation (and vice versa) in order to create a pleasing, attractive balance between their upper and lower body.
5 important questions to ask before you decide to have a BBL
If you’re interested in having a Brazilian butt lift but aren’t sure which questions to ask, here are some things to think about during your initial consultation with your plastic surgeon. Asking the right questions prepares you for the procedure and gives you the confidence you need to make your decision.
This is a transformative procedure that can dramatically change the way you feel about your body and yourself, which is why it is so important for you to be as informed as possible, something I recommend for all my patients.
1. Are you board certified and if so, by which board(s)?
Before undergoing butt augmentation, it’s very important to make sure your plastic surgeon is qualified to perform this highly specialized surgery. He/she should be board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) as well as the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).
My credentials: I am board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). In addition, I am on staff at White Plains Hospital, Northern Westchester Hospital and Lennox Hill Hospital.
2. How many Brazilian butt lifts have you performed?
You certainly do not want your plastic surgeon to be “practicing” on you and your butt. In my opinion, he/she should have performed hundreds of successful butt augmentation procedures, optimally for 10 years or more. Ask to see “before and after” pictures (untouched) and if possible, of different body types: slender, medium and heavy. This will prove that the surgeon has experience with all different body builds and will also enable you to find a body type that you can identify with.
My experience: With over 20 years’ experience and a thorough command of the most advanced surgical techniques and technologies, I consistently provide my patients with the highest level of plastic, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast, face, skin and body.
3. Can you explain the procedure to me?
The plastic surgeon performing your butt lift should be able to explain his/her technique so that you can understand exactly what will happen during the procedure. The Brazilian butt lift has 3 distinct parts: liposuction, fat processing and fat reinjection, and each component is critical to the success of the entire surgery.
4. How long will the surgery take?
Because of the meticulous way the fat has to be extracted (liposuction), processed and reinjected for long lasting, natural-looking results, butt augmentation surgery typically takes 2-4 hours. However, this depends on the amount of liposuction performed and the amount of fat to be reinjected into the buttocks.
5. How safe is a Brazilian butt lift and what are the risks?
I believe the Brazilian butt lift procedure is very safe. This surgery is extremely popular and I have performed hundreds of them very successfully with very low complication rates. Major risks include pulmonary or fat embolism (blood clot) for less than 1% of patients, and anemia. Occasionally, there have also been some complications from injections of fat into the muscle, or into the veins and arteries that are in the buttocks area of the body. That is why experienced, board certified plastic surgeons make sure when we’re injecting the harvested fat that we insert it in such a way that will minimize the risk of complications, maximize the desired results and maintain the highest standards of safety.
Short video explains why a BBL is safe
So that you can be fully informed about the safety of this procedure, I’ve made a short 1½ minute video explaining the details, which you can watch by clicking on the image below.
What to expect during the procedure
During the procedure, your plastic surgeon will use liposuction to vacuum thin layers of fat from areas with excess fat deposits (usually the thighs, flanks or abdomen). This extracted fat is then processed and injected into the buttocks in layers to produce the desired contour and fullness. Approximately 50% of the injected fat is reabsorbed, which is why when I perform this surgery, I exaggerate the original fat transfer to account for this. In order to have this body sculpting procedure, you must have an ample amount of excess fat in other parts of your body that can be extracted and then injected into your buttocks.
Following the procedure, special compression garments are typically worn for several weeks to help reduce swelling and to help shape the butt. Patients usually can go back to work about one week after the procedure. What seems to work well for my patients who work at a desk is to sit with their weight on their thighs and not their buttocks, using a Boppy pillow.
How much does butt augmentation cost?
Often, one of the first questions my patients ask me when they’re considering having a Brazilian butt lift is how much it will cost. My answer is that there is no one standard price. Recognizing that every woman’s body and expectations for butt augmentation surgery are unique to her, I determine the exact cost of a Brazilian butt lift after I have met with the patient, evaluated her body type, amount of fat stores, overall physical condition and her personal goals and expectations. Then together, we will decide exactly what will achieve the best possible results. For further pricing details, please contact me.
