Now that it’s a brand new year, many of my patients are considering making some changes to their face or body in order to feel more attractive, more shapely, more feminine. For some, this might mean a Mommy Makeover or a facelift. For others, it’s breast augmentation. Are breast implants something you’ve been thinking about but have been putting off? If so, I encourage you to take this time to do something for yourself, something that will enhance your joy and self-confidence. An addition to breast augmentation, I offer a complete range of breast procedures which you can learn about here.
Breast augmentation surgery remains one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the US
According to the latest statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, of the 15.6 million cosmetic procedures performed in 2020 in the US (both surgical and minimally-invasive), more than 193,000 women chose to have breast implants. Why is this procedure so popular? There are many reasons. For many women, getting breast implants:
- enhances their confidence and helps them feel more feminine. According to RealSelf, breast augmentation has a 96% “Worth It” rating, based on input from actual patients.
- makes them feel younger, more attractive and sexier
- improves their self-esteem
- enables them to enjoy shopping for clothes again
- causes them to have a better relationship with their partner
- encourages them to feel confident enough to embrace new opportunities
- helps them feel happier and more content with their life
I offer four types of breast implants, all of them safe
- Silicone breast implants—filled with silicone gel.
- Saline breast implants—filled with saline (sterile saltwater).
- The IDEAL implant—contains a series of structured implant shells and two separate chambers filled with saline.
- Natrelle® gummy breast implants—filled with silicone gel. Choose from five profiles (low to extra full), four degrees of fullness (minimal to maximum) and three levels of cohesivity (gumminess).
Most women—and most plastic surgeons, myself included—prefer the look and feel of silicone or structured implants (rather than saline). Both of these are generally considered to look and feel more like real breast tissue, while saline implants are more prone to cause rippling of the skin. Women are also reporting high satisfaction rates with the new gummy versions because they can choose the size and shape of their implants for a more customized, unique look.

What is involved in breast augmentation surgery
I perform breast augmentation procedures at the Surgical Specialty Center located in Harrison, NY. Each of the Center’s four operating rooms is fully equipped with state-of-the-art anesthesia (provided by a board certified anesthesiologist), emergency equipment and everything else I need to provide excellent care to each of my patients.
Breast augmentation surgery involves surgically inserting an implant behind each breast. The most common site for the incision through which the implant will be inserted is in the crease just underneath the breast. It can also be performed around the areola. The incision is very small and inconspicuous in these locations.
Typically, a pocket is created for the implant behind the muscle between your breast and chest wall. Placing the implant behind the muscle creates a very natural appearance and makes it easier for you to obtain accurate mammograms in the future and reduces the risk of capsular contracture.
How much do breast implants cost?
One of the first questions my patients ask me when they’re considering getting breast implants is how much the surgery will cost. My answer is that there is not one standard price. Every woman’s breasts are unique, and the results she is seeking from breast augmentation surgery are specific to her. That’s why I determine the exact cost of the procedure after I have met with the patient, evaluated her breasts and body type, her overall physical condition and her personal goals and expectations. Then together, we will decide what type of procedure will achieve the best possible results.
Are breast implants safe? My answer is yes.
In over 20 years of performing breast implant surgery in my plastic surgery practice, I have encountered very few complications in my patients as a result. For women who want larger breasts, who want the size and shape of their breasts to match, or who have had a mastectomy and want breast reconstruction, breast implants are a highly satisfying, long-lasting solution.

If you already have breast implants, you should get them checked regularly
If you have breast implants — saline, silicone, structured or textured — it’s important to get them checked for ruptures, slippage, leakage, swelling or any other potential problems. For all my patients with implants, I highly recommend getting them examined once a year. Please make an appointment to come in and see me so I can check for any problems.
