One of the most popular plastic surgery procedures
Since it was first introduced in 1996, the Brazilian butt lift (also called butt augmentation or BBL) is now one of the most requested plastic surgery procedures I perform in my practice. In fact, just last year in 2020, surgeons performed 40,000 butt augmentation procedures, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. And between 2015 and 2019, the number of butt augmentation surgeries increased by 90.3%.
What is a Brazilian butt lift and what will it do?
During Brazilian butt lift surgery, I use liposuction to remove excess fat from certain parts of your body and transfer it to the buttock area to give you a higher, plumper and more rounded butt. Typically, I extract this fat from the lower back, “love handles” and abdomen and use it to shape the top and sides of the butt. And since a Brazilian butt lift uses your own fat, there’s no chance of rejection.
In addition, I can slim and trim away where you have too much fat while building up where you would like more fullness. Many of my patients take advantage of liposuction used in a Brazilian butt lift to remove fat from their tummy, waist area and thighs, giving them the beautiful, sexy hourglass silhouette they’ve always wanted.
Are Brazilian butt lifts safe? This short video explains
As a plastic surgeon who has been performing this body contouring surgery for over 20 years, I can confidently say that yes, if done properly, in the right setting, in the right patients, this procedure is safe. In order to avoid any negative outcomes for my patients, I perform all of my surgeries at the Surgical Specialty Center of Westchester, a leading-edge, state-of-the-art facility in Harrison, NY.

How to know if you’re a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift
You might be a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift if you:
- Have lost a significant amount of weight and your butt now sags and droops.
- Are overweight and haven't been able to lose weight through physical activity or changes in your diet.
- Are at a normal weight but want to dramatically improve the appearance of your lower body.
- Are at a normal weight but your skin won't contract after liposuction due to poor elasticity related to aging.
- Are not very thin. Underweight patients may not have enough excess body fat to extract and re-position in the buttocks area.
- Are unhappy with the overall shape and lack of firmness of your butt.
- Are in good physical health.
- Are in a good mental/emotional state.
- Have a positive outlook and realistic expectations.
- Do not smoke or drink excessively.
- Do not have any heart conditions, lung conditions or neurological disorders.
How long will the results last?
A Brazilian butt lift is a very long-lasting procedure. On average, expect about 50% of the injected fat to stay in the area and about 50% to be reabsorbed by the body, which is why I always put in extra fat deposits.
How much does a BBL cost?
When asked how much a Brazilian butt lift will cost, my answer is that there is no one standard price. Recognizing that every woman’s body and expectations for butt augmentation surgery are unique to her, I determine the exact cost of a Brazilian butt lift after I have met with the patient, evaluated her body type, amount of fat stores, overall physical condition and her personal goals and expectations. For further pricing details, please contact me.
Is a BBL covered by insurance?
Generally speaking, Brazilian butt lift surgery is considered to be an elective cosmetic procedure, meaning that it is not covered by insurance.
