Liposuction: Big Decision, Amazing Results

Liposuction: Big Decision, Amazing Results

Deciding to have liposuction is an important life decision and should not be taken lightly. If you’re considering this surgical procedure, please contact me for a free consultation where you’ll hear about your options, details about the procedure, recovery time and what results to expect. I have performed hundreds of liposuction surgeries with outstanding results, and it’s my #1 goal to help you achieve the beautiful body you’ve been wanting. In addition to liposuction, I also offer a wide range of other body sculpting procedures to help you achieve a more shapely body, which you can learn about here.

The best part? Once fat cells are removed with liposuction, they’re gone for good

During puberty, the number of fat cells in your body increases but after that, the number doesn't change. They can get bigger or smaller but they don't increase in number. And since fat cells do not reproduce, once they are eliminated through liposuction, they are permanently removed and will not be replaced.

What liposuction won’t do

  1. Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise.
  2. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite—the dimpled skin that often appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks—or loose saggy skin.
  3. Liposuction will not prevent you from gaining weight. To keep your new shape and new weight after liposuction, you must follow a proper diet and exercise plan.

Learn more about why to have liposuction in this short video

No matter which type of plastic surgery procedure my patients are considering, I firmly believe that the best patient is an informed patient. It's important to me that before you have a procedure, you have all the information you need to make the decision that's right for you. That's why I like providing short videos where I briefly explain a certain body sculpting procedure—in this case liposuction. cover-reasons to consider liposuction-3

Most areas of the body do well with liposuction

Most areas of the body where there is extra fat can be successfully treated with liposuction, although liposuction alone may or may not be the appropriate therapy. It depends on how much fat there is, how much loose skin there is, and the quality of that skin.

The quantity and quality of the skin will really determine whether liposuction, or maybe liposuction with lasers (SmartLipo), is the best solution. If a lot of skin needs to be removed, I might recommend a tummy tuck rather than just liposuction on its own because with a large amount of skin to eliminate, liposuction won’t be successful — the skin is just going to sag. So it really depends on a number of factors, all very patient-dependent.

The 11 places liposuction works best

From head to toe, all of these areas can be improved with liposuction:

  1. Chin and neck area. For younger patients in their 20s or early 30s who have good quality skin with a nice elasticity to it, I can reduce the fat that’s between the skin and the muscles in the neck and get the skin to shrink back nicely.
  2. On the back of the arms where the skin hangs a bit. If the skin is in good shape, I can significantly reduce the circumference of the arms.
  3. In front of the arm pits, where the bra digs.
  4. In the chest wall, the sides of the breasts.
  5. Also in the chest wall, I do gynecomastia, which is reduction of male breast tissue.
  6. The stomach is a very popular, often requested place for liposuction.
  7. Bra rolls
  8. Back rolls
  9. Love handles
  10. Inner thighs, outer thighs
  11. Calves and ankles

Where I don’t do liposuction

  1. I don’t typically perform liposuction on the face: lower eyelids, upper eyelids, cheeks…these aren’t good areas for this procedure.
  2. Lipomas (benign fatty growths) don’t work well with liposuction because if you don’t remove them all, they tend to come back.

For even better results, consider combining liposuction with other body sculpting procedures

For even more dramatic results, liposuction can be combined with a number of other body sculpting procedures such as breast augmentationfacelifttummy tuck, Mommy Makeover or lower body lift. Note that if you're interested in reducing fat throughout your entire body, this will likely take multiple procedures.

When I am asked if liposuction is safe, my answer is yes

In over 20 years of performing liposuction in my plastic surgery practice, I have encountered very few complications in my patients as a result. In fact, what I have observed in both men and women who have had this procedure is that it has been a wonderful turning point in their lives, boosting their self-esteem and enabling them to feel confident about their bodies, sometimes for the first time.

I perform liposuction at the Surgical Specialty Center of Westchester

For almost every plastic surgery procedure I perform, including liposuction, I use the Surgical Specialty Center of Westchester. Located in Harrison, NY, the Surgical Specialty Center has four operating rooms and an 11-bed recovery room. Each operating room is fully equipped with state-of-the-art anesthesia (provided by a board-certified anesthesiologist), emergency equipment and everything else I and my surgical team need to provide the highest standard of care to each one of our patients. Insurance coverage

Insurance companies consider liposuction to be elective cosmetic surgery and therefore is usually not covered by insurance, meaning that patients pay the entire cost themselves.
