By Changing Your Body, Liposuction Can Also Change Your Life!

For many of my patients, deciding to have liposuction has been a wonderful turning point in their lives, boosting their self-esteem and enabling them to feel confident about their bodies, sometimes for the first time. Often, liposuction has been the motivation they needed to commit to a better, more active lifestyle and finally let go of bad habits such as smoking and overeating. In fact, many are now healthier than they were before the surgery.

With a newfound confidence and self-esteem, patients who have had liposuction tend to work hard to maintain their “new” bodies and even improve upon the results. What all this means is that liposuction is about more than simply eliminating fat and becoming slimmer. It truly can change a person’s life for the better.

In addition to liposuction, I also offer a wide range of other body sculpting procedures to help you achieve a more shapely body, which you can learn about here.

How liposuction is performed

Depending on the type of liposuction you are having (there are three different types: tumescent/traditional, laser-assisted/SmartLipo and ultrasound-assisted), you may be able to have it done at your plastic surgeon’s office or surgery center and go home the same day. If large amounts of fat will be removed, the procedure will probably be done in a hospital, and you may need to stay overnight.

Before the procedure starts, you will be given an anesthetic. Depending on how much fat is being reduced and the type of liposuction being done, you may get local anesthesia or general anesthesia.

Once the anesthesia has taken effect, the surgeon will make small incisions in the area to be liposuctioned. He/she will insert a suction device inside the incision and extract excess fat using a suction pump or a large syringe. How long the procedure takes depends on how much fat is being extracted.

No matter which type of plastic surgery procedure my patients are considering, I firmly believe that the best patient is an informed patient. It's important to me that before you have a procedure, you have all the information you need to make the decision that's right for you. Get more information about liposuction by clicking here or on the image below.

Which areas respond best to liposuction?

Liposuction is very successful at reducing localized fat deposits and reshaping a person’s body, often dramatically. It can be performed on almost any part of the body but these are the most commonly requested areas:

  • abdomen and waist
  • hips and buttocks
  • inner and outer thighs
  • inner knees
  • calves and ankles
  • cheeks, jowls and neck
  • upper arms
  • breast and chest areas
  • back

How to know if you’re a good candidate for liposuction

In order to be considered a good candidate for this particular surgical procedure, you should be in good overall physical health and maintain a routine of regular exercise and proper diet. Liposuction tends to work best on smaller areas of fat, so you should be somewhat close to your ideal weight at the time of your procedure. However, as I tell my patients, liposuction is not a substitute for other weight loss strategies and is not designed for patients who are overweight or obese.

Liposuction can be performed at the same time as other plastic surgery procedures for even more satisfying results

Liposuction can successfully be combined with other body sculpting procedures such as facelift, breast augmentationtummy tuck, Mommy Makeover or lower body lift to achieve a more balanced, in-proportion physique. NOTE: If you're interested in decreasing fat throughout your entire body and trimming and tightening several areas, this will likely take multiple procedures.

A completely customized procedure

Every individual’s body is different and the areas where they want to reduce excess fat varies from person to person, also. Before performing liposuction, I personally meet with the patient and together, we decide which technique will most successfully achieve the results they desire.

I perform liposuction at the Surgical Specialty Center of Westchester

For almost every plastic surgery procedure I perform, including liposuction, I use the Surgical Specialty Center of Westchester. Located in Harrison, NY, the Surgical Specialty Center has four operating rooms and an 11-bed recovery room. Each operating room is fully equipped with state-of-the-art anesthesia (provided by a board-certified anesthesiologist), emergency equipment and everything else I and my surgical team need to provide the highest standard of care to each one of our patients. How much does liposuction cost?

Because everyone’s body is unique and the amount and location of fat to be removed with liposuction varies from person to person, the exact cost of this procedure is determined after I have met with the patient and together, we have decided how many areas of the body are good candidates for liposuction in order to achieve the best possible results.

Insurance coverage

Insurance companies consider liposuction to be elective cosmetic surgery and therefore is usually not covered by insurance, meaning that patients pay the entire cost themselves.
