Many of my patients exercise and eat sensibly and yet still have stubborn fat pockets that won’t go away. That’s often when I suggest liposuction. Liposuction can noticeably reduce even the most resistant fat deposits giving you a trim, toned, curvy body that can dramatically change the way you feel about yourself, especially now that bathing suit season is fast approaching. I can perform liposuction alone or at the same time as other plastic surgery procedures
Liposuction can successfully be combined with other cosmetic surgery procudres such as a facelift, breast augmentation or tummy tuck. As long as you maintain your weight, liposuction is a very effective solution for fat reduction. However if you do gain weight after the procedure, the fat usually will not concentrate in the area that was treated.
Improved techniques have made liposuction safer, easier and less painful
Every person’s body is different and the areas where they want to reduce excess fat varies from person to person, also. Before performing liposuction, I personally meet with the patient and together, we decide which technique will most successfully achieve the results they desire.
Three highly-advanced liposuction techniques include:
1. Tumescent (traditional) liposuction
With this technique, a small, hollow tube (cannula) is inserted through one or more tiny incisions near the area to be suctioned. Fat is suctioned out through this tube as a plastic surgeon moves it around under the skin to target specific fat deposits, vacuuming away the unwanted fat.
2. Laser-assisted liposuction (SmartLipo)
Using laser technology, SmartLipo uses a thin laser fiber to liquefy fat by producing a burst of energy as the laser enters the fatty tissue. Laser-assisted liposuction also stimulates collagen production in the skin, which may offer additional skin-tightening benefits.
3. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction
This technique uses ultrasound to liquefy the fat, which makes it easier to extract. This technique may be particularly helpful in reducing fat from the upper abdomen, sides and back.
Liposuction is usually done as an outpatient procedure
Typically, liposuction is performed in a properly equipped doctor's office, ambulatory surgery center or hospital. In general, it does not require an overnight hospital stay unless a large volume of fat is being removed.
For my liposuction patients, I perform the procedure at the Surgery Specialty Center of Westchester, a leading edge, state-of-the-art facility specifically designed by surgeons to provide the highest level of care, privacy and surgical results.
