Want a better, trimmer shape? If you’ve tried dieting and exercise but still have stubborn areas of fat that simply won’t go away, liposuction could be the answer you’ve been looking for. By permanently taking away excess fat deposits, it slims and reshapes specific areas of the body, and at the same time, improves your body contours and proportion for a more pleasing silhouette.
Since fat cells do not reproduce, once they are eliminated by liposuction, they will not be replaced. This may be why the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery rates liposuction as today’s most popular cosmetic procedure.

One of the many body contouring procedures I perform, liposuction is very successful at reducing localized fat deposits and reshaping a person’s body, often dramatically. It can be performed on almost any part of the body but these are the most commonly requested areas:
In my more than 20 years performing liposuction, I’ve heard lots of reasons for deciding to have this highly successful body contouring procedure. For many of my patients, dramatically decreasing those stubborn pockets of fat and bulges that no amount of diet and exercise could erase helps them feel younger, slimmer, more energetic...and more beautiful. For others, having liposuction motivates them to live a healthier lifestyle and let go of bad habits, such as smoking.
Whatever the reason, liposuction can be a wonderful turning point in a person’s life, boosting their self-esteem and enabling them to feel confident about their bodies, sometimes for the first time.
In order to be considered a good candidate for this surgical procedure, you should be in good overall physical health and maintain a routine of regular exercise and proper diet. Liposuction tends to work best on smaller areas of fat, so you should be somewhat close to your ideal weight at the time of your procedure. This surgery is not a substitute for other weight loss strategies and is not designed for patients who are overweight or obese.
Typically, liposuction is performed in a properly equipped doctor's office, ambulatory surgery center or hospital. In general, it does not require an overnight hospital stay unless a large volume of fat is being removed. If you want to reduce fat throughout your entire body, this will likely take multiple procedures.
For my liposuction patients, I perform the procedure at the Surgery Specialty Center of Westchester, a leading edge, state-of-the-art facility specifically designed by surgeons to provide the highest level of care, privacy and surgical results.
During the procedure, body fat is extracted by first inserting a small, hollow tube (cannula) through one or more tiny incisions near the area to be suctioned. Incisions are usually less than one-quarter inch in length and are placed in places where they will be least noticeable, often within skin folds or contour lines. The cannula is connected through a tube to a vacuum pressure unit. Guided by a qualified plastic surgeon, the suction device then permanently vacuums away your unwanted fat.
Many of my patients choose to combine liposuction with other cosmetic surgery procedures such as a facelift, breast augmentation, Mommy Makeover, tummy tuck or lower body lift. To learn more about the full range of body contouring procedures I offer, click here.
Because every person’s body is unique and the amount and location of fat to be removed through liposuction vary from person to person, the exact cost of surgery is usually determined by a plastic surgeon after he or she has met with the patient and together, they have decided which and how many areas of the body are good candidates for liposuction in order to achieve the best possible results.
