Would You Benefit From Nose Reshaping Surgery? Here’s How To Know.

An attractive face is all about balance and proportion. Your nose provides the foundation for this aesthetic balance, helping you feel self-assured and confident. However, if you have never liked your nose and would like to change it, nose reshaping surgery (also known as rhinoplasty or a nose job) is a highly successful way to have the nose you’ve always wanted. This procedure is just one of the many ways I can help you achieve a more beautiful face. To learn more, click here.

Are you a good candidate for nose reshaping surgery?

Rhinoplasty is usually performed to alter the size and shape of the bridge and tip of the nose. Some of my patients also want to narrow the base of their nose or reduce the size of their nostrils. Whatever type of nose you might be seeking, my goal is to give you a natural-looking, flattering nose that fits your face and your personality, enabling you to love the way you look.

If you’re considering nose reshaping surgery, here are some questions I ask my patients to make sure they would be good candidates for the procedure:

  • Why are you unhappy with your nose?
  • Do you feel it’s too large, too small or not in proportion to the rest of your face?
  • Is it crooked, badly shaped or out of alignment?
  • Do you have breathing problems resulting from irregularities or blockages inside your nose?
  • Do you have a deviated septum?
  • Do you have a birth defect that you would like improved?

Are your expectations realistic?

In my more than 20 years performing nose jobs, I’ve heard almost every reason for people deciding to have this procedure: they feel their nose is too large, too small, crooked or bumpy, or it’s been broken at some point and they want it straightened. Whatever the reason, nose reshaping surgery can be a wonderful turning point in a person’s life, boosting their self-esteem and enabling them to feel positive about themselves, sometimes for the first time.

As a highly experienced plastic surgeon, I feel strongly that my patients should be as well-informed as possible and have realistic expectations before undergoing any kind of cosmetic procedure, especially rhinoplasty, which is permanent.

To begin with, it’s important to remember that no one has a perfect nose. In fact, the goal of nose reshaping surgery is not to give you a perfect nose but to create facial balance and correct proportion, as well as to achieve a nose you’re happy with.

Rhinoplasty can improve the following issues:

  • A nose that’s too big or too small for your face
  • A nose that’s too wide at the bridge
  • Visible bumps, humps or depressions
  • A tip that is too large, bulbous, drooping, upturned or hooked
  • Nostrils that are large, wide or upturned
  • An asymmetrical nose
  • A broken nose
  • A deformed nose
  • An obstructed airway
  • A deviated septum

What happens during the surgery?

Rhinoplasty is generally performed through surgical incisions inside the nose—the traditional “closed” approach.

A modified technique, called the “open” approach, is used to benefit patients who need more complex correction or who are undergoing a secondary rhinoplasty procedure. In these cases, a small incision is made outside the nose across the columella (the tissue that divides the two nostrils). This enables me to turn the outer tissue of the nose back so I can see the structures inside. Additional incisions, similar to those used in the “closed” approach, are then made inside the nose. The small scar resulting from the columella incision eventually becomes almost invisible.

You can combine a nose job with chin augmentation

Many of my patients with a receding chin choose to have chin augmentation in addition to rhinoplasty in order to achieve a better balance of their facial features. Chin augmentation can strengthen the appearance of the chin by increasing its projection, but this does not affect your bite or dental work. The most common chin augmentation procedure requires insertion of an implant through a small incision underneath your chin.

How much does nose reshaping cost?

Because every person’s nose is unique and the results they are seeking from nose reshaping surgery are specific to them, I determine the exact cost of the surgery only after meeting with the patient and together, we have decided what type of procedure will achieve the best possible results.
