Most people want to know everything they can about a plastic surgery or cosmetic procedure before they decide to commit to it. A lot of my patients tell me that my  videos really help them in this regard because I explain how a certain procedure works and what kind of results they can expect. It makes me really happy to hear this! Since these videos really seem to help people make informed decisions,  I'm very happy to keep making them. To learn more about the range of body enhancing procedures I offer, click here.

My most recent one is about CoolSculpting and the areas of the body where it works the best. You can read what I talk about (below) or you can watch my short 2-minute video by clicking on the button below.

What Areas Work Best for CoolSculpting video

The areas of the body that respond best to CoolSculpting

Another common question I get asked about CoolSculpting is: What areas work best for CoolSculpting?

We know there's fat all over the body, yet some areas work better for CoolSculpting than others. Areas where CoolSculpting can really be effective are places where the skin is in good shape,  where we know it will stretch back after we remove the fat under it, and where we can get the machine to work. The CoolSculpting machine doesn't fit every area.

CoolSculpting is very good for areas like the chin, the arms, the upper and lower stomach, the love handles, the inner and outer thighs—all of those areas work very well for CoolSculpting. The machine will be able to grab that skin, grab that fat, freeze it, and deliver a nice result.

We are finding that more and more patients are coming back for a second or even third CoolSculpting session to get rid of 20-25% of the fat in an area. Two or three months later they come back and we do another session of CoolSculpting to be able to re-freeze that area, re-freeze the skin and fat, and get an even better result.*

Almost as effective as liposuction but no surgery, no downtime

For patients who are interested in something that's more of a lunchtime fix, CoolSculpting is definitely a great alternative.*

What’s the difference between CoolSculpting and liposuction?

CoolSculpting and liposuction are both body contouring procedures, but the treatment that’s right for you depends on your unique body type and desired results.

CoolSculpting is one of the best options for non-surgical fat reduction. It’s non-invasive, leaves no scarring and has no downtime. However, the results are not immediate, becoming evident as soon as 3 weeks following treatment*, with the greatest results occurring over the next 2-4 months*. Also, CoolSculpting can only deliver a 20-30% reduction in fat and may require multiple treatments to reach a patient’s goal.

Liposuction, on the other hand, can deliver dramatic results after just one treatment, depending on the amount of fat the patient wants extracted and from how many areas of the body. Unlike CoolSculpting, liposuction is surgery, carries some risks and causes a certain amount of bruising, scarring and downtime. For more information on liposuction, download our free fact sheet!

What happens during the procedure

First, we place a gel pad over the area that is being treated to protect the skin from the freezing treatment. Next, a negative pressure device is attached to your skin. You will feel a cold sensation like an ice pack on your bare skin, then a firm tug and pull—enough of a pull to make sure the selected tissue will be cooled most efficiently. Then you will feel a sensation of intense cold, which soon goes away.

Since the CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-invasive (non-surgical, no incisions), you can return to your normal activities immediately. You may experience swelling, redness, minor bruising, tingling or numbness in the treated area, but this is temporary.
