When you look in the mirror, do your wrinkles and creases remind you of the passage of time? Are your crow’s feet and forehead lines making you feel older? Would you like to turn back time a little bit and look younger again? If so, you’re not alone.
For many women, the effects of age, sun damage, smoking, stressful lives and heredity can all be seen on their face. This affects not only the way they look but the way they feel about themselves. Fortunately, there’s a way to reverse all of these unwanted changes with a facelift.
Rather than radically changing the way you look, a facelift simply enhances your natural features and contours while decreasing wrinkles, lines and sagging skin. This is just one of the ways I can help you achieve a more beautiful face. To learn more, click here.
What happens during a facelift?
Virtually no procedure (not even Botox®) can do as much to restore your youthful appearance and make you feel like the best “you” you can be as a facelift. In just a few hours, this plastic surgery procedure dramatically improves your appearance, as well as how you feel inside.
To achieve a firmer, younger-looking face and more elegant neck, a facelift surgically tightens the deeper layers of the facial tissues. It then lifts and repositions these deeper layers as well as the surface skin to restore a youthful neck and jawline.
A mini facelift and a weekend facelift
Some of my younger patients choose a less extensive “mini facelift” to prevent early jowls, or to restore the original contour of their neck and jaw line from their younger years.
The “weekend facelift” is also an option, so-called because this type of facelift can be performed on a Thursday and you can usually return to work the following Tuesday.
Do you have to be a certain age to get a facelift?
Most people who choose to have facelift surgery are between 40 and 70 years old but the procedure can also be performed on qualified candidates younger than 40 and older than 70.
Make sure you’re getting a facelift for the right reasons
Before undergoing a facelift, it's important that you already feel good about yourself. Your goal should be to refresh your face so you can look and feel younger and fresher. I have found that the best candidates for a facelift feel that they look old, angry and/or tired and would feel more confident if they improved their facial appearance.
You should not be thinking that this surgery will give you an entirely new life. A facelift won't make you look like a certain supermodel or movie star. Your age, muscle tone, bone structure, amount of sun damage and quality of skin ultimately determine the end result. I like to tell my patients that a facelift is a gift you give yourself because it will make you feel better.
Have a good support system
While you are healing from facial surgery, it is very helpful to have supportive people around you who can see you through the challenging first few days. Having a strong doctor-patient relationship is also important. Remember, we are partners going through this together.
