Every time you look in the mirror, do you see a nose you’re unhappy with? Is it too big, too small, crooked, bumpy, hooked, or just doesn’t fit your face? If you’re ready to change it, nose reshaping surgery (also known as rhinoplasty or a nose job) is a highly successful way to get the nose you’ve always wanted. This procedure is just one of the many ways I can help you achieve a more beautiful face. To learn more, click here.
Getting a nose job is a big decision, and an irreversible one. If you’re trying to decide whether to have this surgery, here are some questions I ask my patients to make sure they would be good candidates for this procedure:
Types of nose problems this surgery can fix
If you’re seeking for your nose to be more symmetrical, keep in mind that everyone's face is asymmetric to some degree and that no one has a “perfect” nose. The goal of nose reshaping surgery is to create facial balance in the correct proportion, as well as to achieve a nose you’re happy with. Within realistic expectations, surgical rhinoplasty can improve the following issues:
Nose reshaping is generally performed through surgical incisions inside the nose — the traditional “closed” approach. A modified technique, called the “open” approach, is often used for patients who need more complex correction or who are undergoing a secondary rhinoplasty procedure. In these cases, a small incision is made outside the nose across the tissue that divides the two nostrils. This enables me to turn the outer tissue of the nose back so I can see the structures inside. Additional incisions, similar to those used in the “closed” approach, are then made inside the nose. The small scar resulting from the outer incision eventually becomes almost invisible.
For most people, rhinoplasty brings about:
The results should be relatively permanent. While initial swelling from nose reshaping surgery subsides within a few weeks, it may take up to a year for your new nose shape to fully “settle in.” During this time period, you may notice gradual changes in the appearance of your nose as it heals and becomes more permanent. In addition, a healthy lifestyle and diligent sun protection will help extend the results of your “new nose.”
To achieve a better balance of their facial features, many of my patients who have a receding chin choose to have chin augmentation in addition to rhinoplasty. By inserting an implant through a small incision underneath the chin, this procedure strengthens the appearance of the chin by increasing its projection, without affecting your bite or dental work. If you’re interested in having chin augmentation at the same time as nose reshaping or as a separate procedure, please contact me for a free consultation to determine if this would be a beneficial surgery for you.
Because every person’s nose is unique and the results they are seeking from nose reshaping surgery are specific to them, I determine the exact cost of the surgery only after meeting with the patient and together, we have decided what type of procedure will achieve the best possible results.
