What if you could erase years from your face, in minutes, without surgery? With Botox, you can! Yes, Botox noticeably decreases crow’s feet around your eyes, forehead wrinkles and vertical forehead creases between your eyes, but it has many other important benefits as well. To learn about the many other ways I can help you achieve a more beautiful face, click here.
As well as improving your facial appearance, Botox can also:
- Manage acne. Tiny amounts of Botox injected superficially can reduce oil production and reduce breakouts but still enable you to have facial expressions. The most common and effective area for this is the forehead.
- Deliver a temporary facelift. Botox can shape the jaw, lift the tip of the nose, and relax wrinkles around the eyes and forehead.
- Mimic a nose job. Around age 40, your nose can sag and become more hooked, which can make your face appear droopy. Botox lifts the nose by releasing the depressor muscle that pulls the nose downward, making your entire face appear younger and more lifted in about 10 minutes.
- Soften the jawline and chin. Grinding your teeth can make your jawline wider over time. Injecting Botox into this area shrinks the jaw muscles and narrows the jawline. This makes your cheeks appear more lifted and relieves the pain and soreness that can result from teeth grinding.
- Tighten jowls. If your jawline has become less defined, Botox injections along the muscles of the jawbone can pull up the skin for a crisp, defined effect.
- Lift your lips. Tiny drops of Botox injected along the upper lip border can roll the top lip up and out slightly so that it appears plumper. This is subtler than collagen injections, and because the technique requires less Botox than other areas of the face, it's also less expensive.
- Smooth the neck. Horizontal wrinkles can be temporarily erased with what is sometimes called a "Botox necklace." Tiny amounts are injected into the muscles above and below the lines, all the way around the neck. When these muscles relax, wrinkles soften and the skin looks smoother. Botox can also reduce protruding neck muscle cords and thereby lift the face.
- Smooth out cleavage. With age (and sun exposure), lines can develop between the breasts for many women. Botox injected into the pectoral muscles smooths these out.
- Treat migraines. It's not totally understood how Botox works on migraines. The theory is that it blocks the pain signals being sent to the brain and relaxes the muscles in the head so they're not as sensitive to pain. Injected into the forehead, temples and scalp, Botox helps people who have frequent migraine attacks that are not improving with traditional migraine medications.
- Decrease excessive sweating. Botox is often used to treat hyperhydrosis (medically diagnosed excessive sweating) by being injected the underarms, palms, soles of the feet, scalp, forehead and temples. The results can be life-changing for people with pathological sweating who have significant embarrassment from sweating and need to change clothing during the day because of it.
- Make hair blowouts last longer. Some women who get Botox treatments in the scalp and at the hairline have reported that their blowouts last longer because they don't sweat at the edge of their hairline.
How long does a treatment last?
A Botox treatment generally takes 3-7 days to take full effect and usually last 3-4 months. After that, as muscle movement gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to reappear and will need to be treated again. However, with each Botox treatment these lines and wrinkles typically appear less visible because they’re actually being trained to relax.
Is Botox safe? Yes and here’s why
Contrary to what some people think, Botox is not a filler. It is actually a protein produced by a bacteria called clostridium botulinum which, in the small amounts that physicians use, can safely be injected into a muscle, causing it to relax by blocking signals between the nerves and the muscles. It’s this “muscle blocking” that decreases the appearance of wrinkles, lines and creases. However, it’s important to understand that Botox cannot decrease wrinkles caused by gravity or sun exposure — only those wrinkles caused by squinting and/or muscle patterns.
Highly experienced in Botox procedures
Having been in practice for over 20 years as a plastic surgeon, I have performed thousands of Botox treatments with outstanding results. I understand how important it is for both women and men to feel good about themselves, and a lot of that has to do with how they feel about their facial appearance. I can confidently say that by “turning back the clock,” Botox can achieve the smoother, younger-looking results they are looking for.
